A hard fiber from the leaf stems around the trunk of the abaca plant, Musa textilis (Agotai), which is of the same family as the banana and native to the Philippine Islands and Central America. Also called Manila hemp. Synonyms: Cebu hemp and Davao hemp. Also spelled Abaka. See also Hemp.
